FAQ's
What is solar energy?
Solar energy is a renewable energy source that comes from the sun. It is harnessed using photovoltaic (PV) panels, which convert sunlight into
electricity. This clean energy source can power homes, businesses, and various other applications.
How do solar panels work?
Solar panels consist of numerous solar cells made from silicon. When sunlight hits these cells, it knocks electrons loose, creating a flow of
electricity. This electricity is then converted into usable power for your home or business.
What are the benefits of using solar energy?
Solar energy offers several benefits, including:
● Cost savings: Reduce your electricity bills significantly.
● Environmental friendliness: Generate clean energy with zero emissions, reducing your carbon footprint.
● Energy independence: Become less reliant on the traditional power grid.
● Increased property value: Solar panels can make your property more attractive to potential buyers.
What is a solar battery energy storage system (BESS)?
A battery energy storage system (BESS) stores excess energy generated by your solar panels during the day. This stored energy can then be used at night or during periods of low sunlight, ensuring a continuous power supply.
How much can I save on my electricity bill with solar energy?
Your savings will depend on factors such as your energy consumption, the size of your solar system, and the amount of sunlight your property
receives. However, you can expect to save a minimum of 25% on your current electricity bill.
What is a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA)?
A PPA is a contract where you agree to purchase the solar energy generated by your system at a discounted rate. This allows you to benefit from solar energy without any upfront investment.
How long is the PPA term?
The standard PPA term for business and hospitality is 20 years, but it can be advantageous to extend it to 25 years.
Home owners can sign a 10 year PPA.
Should I stay connected to Light & Power
In the rare case of severe weather conditions or other extreme events you may wish to remain connected to Barbados Light & Power. However,
this is not essential and you may wish to purchase your own generator or emergency power.
What happens at the end of the PPA term?
Usually we can sign a new PPA. Alternatively you can buy the solar system at an agreed discount.
What is included in the operation and maintenance (O&M) services?
O&M services include comprehensive monitoring and reporting, preventive maintenance, corrective maintenance, performance optimization,
compliance and safety measures, and dedicated customer support.
What are the benefits of the O&M services?
O&M services help maximize energy production, extend the lifespan of your solar assets, provide cost savings, and offer peace of mind.
What additional sustainability solutions do you offer?
Additional solutions include energy efficiency upgrades, water conservation measures, waste management programs, green building
certifications, renewable energy integration, electric vehicle infrastructure, employee and guest engagement initiatives, and carbon footprint
analysis.
